I worked in graphic
design for ten years before realizing that computers may be integrated
into my ceramics. It was during this period that I discovered the
importance of the computer to the formation of my work. Recently
I have come to some realizations: First, computers and working with
clay are not mutually exclusive, rather, computers can be used as
a tool for designing or planning my ceramic work. The computer has
become as important as all my other traditional ceramic tools, if
not more. Second, my experiences and aesthetics, which are tied
to tradition and utilitarian pottery, can be expressed in a very
new and different way using the computer. Third, just as my graphic
design job became boring and routine, I discovered that using a
computer was an efficient and natural way to plan my pot forms.
