My interest in birds surfaced when I noticed dead birds and began to draw and photograph them. There where blunt contrasts that I couldn't ignore, those existing between strength and fragility, power and weakness. I use the surface to create a narrative that is told through the viewer's experience and imagination. This surface is influenced by printmaking and Asian calligraphy. I use traditional pottery forms to bridge the two dimensional media with the sculptural aspects of pots.
