Form and line are what I notice first about almost everything, form and line and the effect of light. As a child, I spent a lot of time by myself roaming the fields and woods of our farm. I remember being particularly fascinated by the play of light in the late afternoon on the undulating curves of snowdrifts and also by the tendrils of melon and cucumber vines in our garden that seemed to climb many inches in a night. I am very aware of light on the surfaces that I create, and that undulating line of snowdrift and vine appears over and over.
What I strive for in my work is a quality which, for want of a better term, I will call “organic integrity”. This is a natural hannony of mass, line, color and pattern that one finds in a beach stone or a seed pod. It is the quality which gives the work it’s "presence" beyond and separate from it’s function.
