LINDA ARBUCKLE I FLORIDA
The tradition and interpretation of the functional vessel bring experiences through the functional art object into one's daily life. Line, color, gesture and the lure of materiality articulate the value of indulgence and the transience of (plant) life.

BRAD SCHWIEGER I OHIO
"I find an interesting parallel between architecture and pottery. Like architecture, pottery deals with elements of form and structure, interior/exterior, utility or containment, surface detail and adornment."

JANE SHELLENBARGER I MISSOURI
"I am interested in the connection between the hand and eye and memory. My work focuses on a vessel aesthetic. The pieces are thrown and altered with highly personal surface treatments. While function continues to be an essential concern, I am intrigued with the ability of pots to transcend themselves as objects and convey the information of other eras and cultures."

I want my pots to engage people where they live and to play a part in their savoring of life. I make my pots to be part of people’s homes, celebrations and private moments.

"Use and its connection to the domestic arena constitute the framework and context in which I work. The themes provided by function are familiar – vases, cups, teapots, etc."

RICHARD SWANSON I MONTANA
"An important aspect of all my sculptural work, teapots included, is the way forms relate and flow together. I am constantly combining and simplifying to enhance movement/ rhythm/ unity."

JEFF OESTRIECH I MINNESOTA
The subject matter of my work is function. Of concern to me is how my pottery operates in a domestic setting, both physically and aesthetically.
Initially all work is thrown on a potter’s wheel, later to be altered using a variety of techniques. These techniques are often traditional ones modified to suit my ideas

SIMON LEVIN I WISCONSIN

February 11 - 26, 2005
PETER PINNELL I NEBRASKA
My work is intended to be both utilitarian and decorative, with both aspects being equally considered. The surfaces are embellished with textures and ornament of a regular, rhythmic nature. The forms, colors and textures are derived from inspired by various aspects of nature, especially botanical forms, and the winter landscape of the American Midwest.

"I strive to have the end product reflect my own sensitivity and awareness to the material itself and its traditions. The pieces that I'm most pleased with are those that come closest to best integrating the form and surface, the spontaneity and fluidity of the clay along with the object's use. "

NICHOLAS JOERLING I NORTH CAROLINA/font>
"I make pots as much from a drawing sensibility as a pottery one. Daydreaming with a pencil. Not drawing as rendering but simply doodling, then working hard to get that drawing to function. Profile line is therefore a strong attraction, a strong dictate, as are the smaller pieces within spaces. And of course that sense of animation."

WILL RUGGLES & DOUGLASS RANKIN I NORTH CAROLINA
"For us, pots are a vehicle for interaction. Interaction between hands and mind, clay and fire, maker and user, food and dishes, sight and touch. Pots begin with the potter from within the long tradition of making things with clay. They are finished by the choices and enjoyment of the user. Interaction is the key to living, and we hope our pots enhance this process."

MATTHEW METZ I MINNESOTA,
"The carved and drawn surfaces function decoratively but attempt to be relevant to contemporary life. Through the images resist a specific narrative reading, the iconography has been chosen for its personal resonance."

LINDA SIKORA I MINNESOTA, NEW YORK
"Jars and teapots are at the front edge of my recent inquiry. The teapot, more demanding of specific engineering particular to its function, and the jar, a generous canvas, its criteria of containment more permissive."

RECENT CERAMICS I MARK SHAPIRO I MASSACHUSETTS
"Where will my pots end up? In the landfills with the lawnmowers and TVs and silicon chips—the giant middens of our insatiable desires? No matter. I am glad just to leave a record of my own touch in this most receptive fragile and enduring material."

RENDERINGS IN CLAY I MARY BARRINGER I MASSACHUSETTS
"I am fascinated by the conversation that goes on between people and things -- and between people thorough things -- and I want to participate in that with my work. It means engaging in ideas that are not just personal, and that my personal exploration goes on against the backdrop of a larger, cultural set of ideas about about objects and functions. "
